In commemoration of International Women's Day, The Kiwanis Club of Young Professionals held a Financial Literacy and Empowerment session with female students of the Trench Town Polytechnic College on Friday March 19, 2021. Under the international theme: "Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a Covid 19 World", the Club engaged students on how to plan and save for the future by investing in themselves and their children.
The session was vibrantly moderated by Distinguished President Ms. Naketa West and featured greetings from Leader of the Opposition and Member of Parliament for the constituency, Mr. Mark Golding who reminded the students about the strong history and tradition of Jamaican Women's financial acumen. Lieutenant Governor for Kiwanis Division 23 Central, Ms. Deborah Manning, Principal of the College, Dr. Dosseth Edwards-Watson and Club President Jermaine Young gave remarks relating to the importance of financial planning.
The students were addressed by Ms. Kerisha Smith, Wealth Advisor from Sagicor Investments Jamaica who added value on how to make money work for them through saving and investment opportunities and were also treated to important life lessons by motivational speaker Mrs. Brittany Singh Williams, who encouraged them to remain grounded and focused while planning for the future.
The project was sponsored through a grant from the Kiwanis Children's Fund and each attendee was provided with a gift certificate of J$2500.00 to start an investment account sponsored by Sagicor Investments.
